President Rouhani’s Human Rights Record

In October 2014, the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran Ahmed Shaheed released a report on the situation of human rights in Iran.

In this short interactive report Rouhani Meter takes a look at what he has to say related to the President’s promises. According to the report, the situation “remains of concern” and “worsened” in some areas, but also noted a few improvements, which is more optimistic than recent years.

Although the report states that the Special Rapporteur is “encouraged by recent attempts by officials to enter into dialogue with him and the international community”, Mr. Shaheed told the reporters in New York that Iran’s President has not lived up to his campaign pledge to improve human rights.
